"MOURNERS" with RIP placards gathered outside a post office to mark its closure.
The campaigners,who had fought to keep it open, stood in silence as the main post office on Streatham High Road closed its doors for the last time on Wednesday.
They expressed their "bitter disappointment" that despite a 5,500-strong petition, the post office had closed and services moved to the nearby WHSmith.
Brian Palmer, Lib Dem councillor for Streatham, said: "We do not see the closure of our main post office often so we wanted to mark the end of it. It's a sad day for Streatham.
"WHSmith just simply won't be able to cope with the extra demands on it."
The new branch will be open from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday, and has a lift so people with mobility problems can get to the first floor.
