Police will not give up hunt to bring Mold postman's murderers to justice

Police believe people in the community can still help bring those who murdered a postman to justice 14 years after the crime took place.

North Wales Police are convinced vital information in relation to the brutal murder of Paul Savage remains in the community and say they will not give up their investigation until his killers have been found. The father-of-one was beaten to death with a wooden baton while making his delivery round in Mold on February 4, 2003.

Detective Superintendent Iestyn Davies said: “The investigation into an unsolved murder is never closed and we will continue to explore any new leads, and utilise advances in technology that may help us bring justice to Paul’s family.

“I’d encourage anybody who has new information about this murder to speak to us.

“I understand people are sometimes reluctant to come forward years after such a serious crime, but I'd like to reassure them we are only interested in securing that vital piece of information that will help bring this investigation to an eventual and positive conclusion.

“There may be those who have been keeping secrets linked to Paul’s death for others and I am still convinced vital information still rests in the community and I’d urge those people to come forward and speak with us.”

The 30-year-old died in Wrexham’s Maelor Hospital after he was found lying beside his delivery bike in the snow on Clayton Road, with his mailbag alongside him.

Despite a £100,000 reward, his killers have never been brought to justice.

In the weeks following his murder, which took place at around 7.30pm near Bryn Gwalia school, police said they had received a huge response to their appeals for information.

They revealed two hooded males had been seen in the area around the time of the incident.

The murder was also the focus of BBC Wales TV documentary Wall of Silence.

In 2005, police said they knew the motive of the murder but were not prepared to release the details.

And in 2010, officers revisited the investigation with the inquiry leading to a fresh search of fields near the murder scene and new items undergoing forensic tests.
