Having your walk tested
We had geo-route in our office recently and its been a disaster. Half the walks are too big the others are too easy. We are now having them tested? I was wondering who should actually test the walks. Apparently we have an acting DUM going to do ours but this acting DUM is also a postman at our office. Is this fair as his walk is one of the easiest so cant see him getting anything put on his own

Ours is the same but the guy who tested them is the lineo and the guy now sorting it out is a senior postman who is now a reserve because his walk disappeared so should balance out pretty fair.
TBH whatever happens you will never have all walks the same some will loose and some will gain.

We are still waiting on the revisions from the implementation on SDD (at least they are efficient)TrueBlueTerrier wrote:completely dependent on how proactive and efficient the manager is.Lovin Posties wrote:This is something my postie mentioned in a chat to me on about his walk being to big and the managers looked on a computer so he is having a few houses taken from his walk and just as at matter of intrest do they take long to change does anyone know?

This has been a constant bug bear at our office but how can you make all the jobs the same: some take longer to prep, some have lots of packets and signatures i could go on........
I find the most effective way of dealing with disproportionate jobs is just to do the job properly: the time is coming when we will all be working to our time and once you come to terms with that you will find it a revalation. The pressure to rush like crazy and to try and complete each day disappears: you simply do the job properly work to your time and bring back or leave behind any mail you are unable to deliver in your time.
If i have to do more IPS and i am later out so be it - i deliver less
If i am put on a different job which i know less well so be it - i deliver less
Any complaints from management refer them to those with time on their hands ie the early start, easy job rush rush use their own car bridgade.
I am not advocating kicking your heels and taking the proverbial just do the job properly and work at a fair pace.
Remember its not piece work or a race - if you want that try a factory or race Lewis Hamilton
So answer me this if you have your job walk tested does it not mean that the pressure will be there to complete every day!
I say let them try thier best with Geo Route etc(it should be in RM interest to get the jobs acheiveable and even) and remember what our lord and master said - he wants us to work 37hrs 20mins a week so why should we make ourselves ill by trying to do the impossible.
It looks like job and finish may go if it does DO YOUR JOB PROPERLY the future may not be as bad as you think.
ps Continue to support the union - its us not just the top two

the bloke who opens up at 4am says many of the 6am staff are still coming in up to one and a half hours before their time!!!!! they are like ostriches burying their heads in the sand, thinking their cheating will go on for ever! get a life you parasites!!! even the 24 hour contract walks are not fully thrown up by the time they start at 0930!!! if it wasn't for the managers doing postmans work the place would fall on it's arse!!! a lot of the walks are shite, some have had a bit taken off and some have had a bit added. though none of them have been tested correctly! they brought a right clown in who had his own way of doing tests! ie theres nowt wrong with most of the walks it must be the bloke who is on it!!!

Many in my office still come in early (up to 2 hrs) but the end of job and knock will mean that these people will end up finishing the work that those doing the job properly (like me
) leave behind. One today supposed to start at 7 but was in at 6 finished at 1 but went out to deliver the cut offs.

Perhaps i didnt put it very well, i have a massive problem with the top two and still hope the agreement is thrown out: i was trying to say that the rest of us union should continue to stand firm and support each other. I think the top two have forgotten life in the real world.

Walks can NEVER be equal. Whether this by geography, amount of packets etc. etc. I agree wholeheartedly with Senior Service on his text. Some people in my office (wholehertedly behind the "no work until start time" ethos) see no problem in throwing off the work that has been sorted by afternoon sorters before they go home
.
My "NO" vote is in the post already.
