Got called into the office yesterday and told by a manager Ive been overpaid allowances. Ive been working in callers for nearly 3 years, my old duty consisted of 2 walks, 2 driving dutys & a morning in callers. Anyway I've been paid £10.84 pw driving allowance continuously since my old duty, the little turd I had my B & H case against bought it up with the DOM in January, the DOM told him to leave it, I guess that was because we don't get any sort of allowance for working in the room of gloom. My DOM has moved to a different office this week, strange this has reared its head as soon as he's gone. I've been told by the manager that he will be asking wages to recover some if not all of the money, thats going to work out at nearly a grand. Can they do this?
Also I was told that mine & my colleagues early morning shift allowance will be halved to £6 as we work 1 week earlies (6am-2pm) & 1 week lates (11.30am-7.30pm), is there an allowance after 7pm?
I'm thinking of going back on deliveries(until I find a new job) as there is no incentive for working in callers, unless you like getting abused.

Hi,
Yes they can take this back pay but it is at the discretion of the manager, I would go in and speak to him explain that your previous DOM knew but continued to pay it - IMO they should waive the pay - I would also ask if you lose early shift allowance and the drivers money, if you can receive supervisory money £28.00 a week, don't expect instant answer just go through what you do and what additional responsibilities you are prepared to do.
In our office the callers staff do cash returns, lock the office up, oversee any issues in the absence of a manager + loads of other bits and bobs, for this they receive the £28.00
Show a bit of willing and your manager should meet you half-way.

Afraid not. There is an allowance for duties finishing after 8pm, and a higher one for duties finishing after 9.45pm.

Received a letter from recoveries today, have been overpaid £398.37 on Early Shift Allowance and £349.08 Driving Allowance, min payment for recovery of overpayment £47 per week
It says on the bottom of the letter I can contact my Union Rep for advice & support, is he going to pay it then?

I would seek advice from your Rep and argue the case that the DOM knew about it and did nothing to correct the problem. I was told s good while back that there was no agreement on recovering overpayment's and that all recoveries were on hold pending an agreement. I am sure it was bought up at conference.
Your manager sounds like a spiteful little bast**d and paying back £47.00 a week is way to much money. Speak to a rep and if need be come up with an alternative figure that wont leave you scrimping, but like I said, as far as I am aware there are no agreements on recovering overpayment's.
Dont let the little s**t grind you down.
