Special Delivery Processing

If a special delivery labelled item has been posted in a standard postbox or a post office branch has accidentally dropped it in the wrong collection sack e.g a 1st class standard bag, what is the procedure once it gets to the mail centre to resort it into the correct secure/special channel
e.g would the postman emptying the post box at that stage put it in a separate specials bag or does it get to the mail centre and if seen get plucked out to go in the correct channel?

The mixing of products happens frequently at the collection stage.

In the vast majority of cases it will be separated out at the mail centre and the item will be processed as a special delivery.
