Undelivered Amazon parcels found dumped in Exeter hedge - investigation launched

Amazon has launched an investigation after several packages bound for online shoppers were found dumped in a hedge outside an Exeter gym.

The company will also investigate claims their customer service team told a Good Samaritan they would have to pay out of their own pocket to return them.

Five Amazon parcels bound for Torquay or Paignton, now reunited with their owners, were dumped in the car park of Fitness First on Tudor Street yesterday morning.


At this stage, it is not clear which courier service were delivering the parcels on behalf of Amazon Logistics, based out of Sowton industrial estate.

A customer handed the parcels over to Fitness First sales team member Natalie Kissane, claiming to seen them dumped in a hedge at the corner of the car park.

She made every effort to make sure the parcels were reunited with their owners.

She claims she was surprised by the discovery, and worried that they may be birthday and Christmas presents.

But she soon discovered that the task would be harder than she expected.

Amazon customer service reportedly hung the telephone up on her four times before asking her to pay to send them back.

She added: "One call centre worker actually said to me "I can't help you without the invoice number madam" before a long, awkward, pause and then hanging up the phone.


"Another kept asking for my email address and wouldn't listen that they weren't my parcels. Another suggested I could post them back but they couldn't send me a postage label so I would have to pay."

The parcels were eventually picked up by a DPD courier. They scanned the parcels and discovered they did not belong to them.

DPD returned them to the Amazon depot and they were sent out again.

A spokesperson for Amazon said: "We take an allegation of this nature extremely seriously and will work with the delivery company which will investigate the matter."

The issues involving customer service are also being investigated.
