Verwood Delivery Office merges with Ringwood

Royal Mail closed the Verwood Delivery Office on Monday - but there will be no job losses.

Merged with Ringwood Delivery Office and relocated to Headlands Business Park in Ringwood, it has longer opening hours for customers to collect and drop off mail items.

Royal Mail says it is investigating a local solution for collecting items that could not be delivered, because the customer was not at home when the postman called.

Royal Mail's delivery director, Estelle Baillie, said: "Our service to customers will continue to be a top priority and customers can be reassured that we will do all we can to minimise disruption and ensure we maintain the high level of service that they expect and deserve from Royal Mail."

Verwood resident Angela Daymond said: "I do not have a problem with the new arrangements. They are offering to re-deliver at a time convenient to the resident if they have been unable to leave a parcel with a neighbour. The only problem is, if someone wants their parcel urgently, the new location is very out of the way off the Ringwood to Salisbury road, some five miles away or more. However, opening hours have been extended into the afternoon which was not available at the Verwood Sorting Office previously.
