the first day you will be introduced to hopefully, your coach, manager, Union Rep.

You'll be shown how to make one of these

Image

fill up to look like this.

Image

and then you'll be trained how to take it from the full frame and bag it up into delivery order.

Image

Thats the basics, but don't worry. For your first few days at a minimum, and certainly the first, you will be "puppy walked" by your coach.

Handy Hint 1 - get a small pocket-size notepad to jot things down.

At first it will all seem very confusing but my advice is mouth closed except when asking questions (ie don't join in the banter straight away) and ears open and you'll do fine.

Thanks for the advice, its good to see what the frames look like. A few questions

Where do you collect mail/parcels before you put them in the frame?
how do you know what order to put them in for delivery ?
do you put recorded, specials etc in separate bags and all normal mail in another?

Probally some silly questions I know but it helps me to know these things .. :nervous

You will be shown and instructed on the local practises for all of these

Parcels from the parcel sorting area. Letters from Primary. (ignore the terms you'll get used to them.
thfclim wrote:how do you know what order to put them in for delivery ?
The letters - you sort them into the frame which is plotted in delivery order. The Parcels you put them into the correct bag after marking a letter for that address to indicate they have something extra beyond their letters.

Recorded is treated the same as ordinary mail except when delivering them. How you deal with Special Delivery items depends on the type of delivery you do. Again you will be instructed on best practice for that duty.

I saw on another thread you said the frames do not run in order by numbers but how you actually deliver it, how do you know what numbers to put on your frames in order? DO you just work out what order you do your delivery's in? :d'oh!

No the frames are made up already in delivery order, not street or number order. So you just put the letter in the slot for that address - simples.

You soon get the swing of it. The hardest bit is learning the frame by heart for a couple of days. You get mechanised sorted Mail which is already walk sequenced to the prep frame and is easy to throw in then you get non mech which is manually sorted and is random so knowing the placement for each address on the frame helps in your prepping speed. Don't worry you learn quite quickly with practise. In a week you will know how to prep and deliver and feel it's no sweat.
