Hi all,
I've been reading a lot of threads on this site about joining and working in the Royal Mail. I've read threads about new starters and hoping that will be me some day soon. Needless to say today, I have been formally offered the job I applied for. Really pleased.
However, I do have a couple of questions. I've been told that no references have been taken - is this normal?
Secondly, with regards to the uniform order form. Can you please tell me if the clothes are a reliable fit or are they bigger than you would expect? Are the shoes very roomy and do they come in half sizes?
Look forward to hearing from you all.
Many thanks.

Couple of questions
You can order basic uniform from your start date (6 month + contracts) which is 5 tops, 2 trousers, 3 hivis and some shoes/boots... They do do a couple of styles in half sizes.
You have to ring up dimensions you should get the number somewhere in your welcome emails and you can ring them again after 6 weeks for the rest waterproofs etc

I got mine within a week of starting. you also get a fleece too forgot about that..and I called it basic cos you get nothing that's slightly waterproof which is great because it never rains here!

Thanks all for the reply, I've been given a uniform order form and told I can order it once I get my contract come through the post.tinkz wrote:I got mine within a week of starting. you also get a fleece too forgot about that..and I called it basic cos you get nothing that's slightly waterproof which is great because it never rains here!
I quoted your reply tinkz as I'm slightly concerned! There's been heavy rain here all day and it looks like it's moving across the entire country - did you escape and put the fleece to the ultimate test?!

Managed to miss the rain here today thankfully but have been soaked a few times...if you're lucky there might well be done old waterproofs laying around the DO if not get yourself a cheap waterproof jacket and wear shorts...nothing worse than having to spend the day in wet trousers
