Five illegal immigrants were found working on a self-employed basis at the delivery company's site where convicted rapist Nicholas Laloo worked

Five illegal immigrants have been found working at Yodel’s Farnborough depot, Get Hampshire has learned.

The news comes just two weeks after it was also revealed that a convicted rapist worked out of the delivery company’s site, based in Summit Avenue.

Through a third party supplier, Yodel, a parcel delivery service for many of the UK’s leading retailers, employed rapist Nicholas Laloo at the depot between October last year and April.

It has now emerged that five illegal immigrants were also found working on a self-employed basis at the firm’s Farnborough depot in April, around the same time Mr Laloo’s employment with the company came to an end, when Home Office representatives visited the site directly.

One of the workers has since been deported.

A spokesman for the Home Office said: “Immigration Enforcement officers visited a business premises in Summit Avenue, Farnborough, on April 6.

“Three Indian men aged 25, 26 and 36, a man from Brazil aged 25, and a man from Pakistan, aged 43, were arrested after they were found to have no right to work in the UK.

“The Brazilian man was removed from the UK in April. The other men were released and were ordered to report regularly to the Home Office while their cases are progressed.

“A second visit to the same premises was conducted on June 14. No arrests were made.”

Following Get Hampshire's report on Wednesday July 27 about former convicted rapist Laloo working out of the depot for six months, another ex-employee got in touch and shared their experiences of working at the site.

The former staff member, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “It doesn’t surprise me that all of this has happened as the culture and everything there was terrible.

“In my time there, there were two raids from immigration, who drove up to the gates and demanded to see certain people’s paperwork – and it turned out there were migrant workers there who were not meant to be in the country.”

The former employee added they had worked for managers they found to be ‘pretty intimidating people’, and criticised the culture at the company.

A statement from Yodel said: “We have been working closely with UK visas and immigration, and assisted their visit on April 6 in which five people were arrested.

“A second visit on June 14 resulted in no arrests.

“We’re disappointed to hear that former workers at the service centre felt uncomfortable.

“Our new service centre manager joined us on April 1 and has been focused on improving the effectiveness and levels of engagement from the Yodel team in Farnborough.”
