USPS - Postal worker is caught being kind

Steven Mayberry of Farmington suffers from relapsing multiple sclerosis so when the vehicle he was driving on Friday overheated he was placed in a bad situation.

It happened on Hunt Road Friday morning. The heat quickly took a toll on his MS. He was stranded without water to cool the radiator.

Several cars drove by him before a postal service employee drove by him and then put the vehicle in reverse to come back and check on Mayberry.

The postal employee gave Mayberry a gallon of water and told him of yet another water source he should use if he should run out before he got home. Before returning to his route, he asked Mayberry if he was going to be OK.

Mayberry did make it home OK and didn't wait long before calling the Farmington Post Office and the Daily Journal to report the act of kindness. The postmaster knew who the employee was.

Mayberry said the heat was about to cause his MS to relapse, causing him to be laid up for days or a week. He said MS is devastating when you have it or when you relapse, affecting a person mentally and physically.

"I was minutes away from a really bad situation," Mayberry said.

This simple act of kindness "meant the world to me."

"I don't know his name. He was driving a gold car ... a Buick LeSabre," he said.
