Well ladies and gentlemen, I've done 11 months and I'm fed up. I'm handing in my notice tomorrow. My only slight concern is I normally work Wednesday-Saturday 20 hours. However, I have my new job starting on Friday. So shall I offer to work Tuesday and say next Monday to cover the 20 hours?

Just phone them tomorrow morning first thing and tell them you start new job Friday, you're willing to work Mon, Tue. Put ball in their court. What can they do, sack you.

Interested to know, why are you fed up with it? What's your opinion on being new? Stress, physical or both?

I would imagine, crappy 20hr contract, no weekends off, working the four busier days, poor holiday pay. Having 5 hrs less break to complete duty and all the hassle associated with that. Could be wrong though.

What job are you leaving for if you don't mind me asking?

I think with our current rate of pay and Royal Mail's 9% pension contribution on top is pretty generous. Not to mention the opportunity to earn more with overtime, and a strong union behind us, and a relative degree of job security.

Very few jobs at this level in the private sector will compare to that, and with these uncertain brexit times ahead of us you have to be careful.

I've considered all that. Trust me, I think brexit is a disaster. However I hate the holidays, The politics at work, the feeling awkward for cutting off, the blind rounds all the time. It's made me unhappy for quite a while. So life's too short for me. I know there are perks and overall it's considered a good job. However it's just not for me.

Hey I'm happy in my job, I earnt 37K last year as a "part-time" postman. Show me a job at a similar skill level to ours that is anywhere close.

Good for you, but I don't like working 20 hours there, let alone 50-60 a week

All the best mate..I know exactly how you feel. Hope the new job works out for you.

This is a good job..for senior full timers with nice rural duties who have been on the same delivery for years. I know a few in my office. Nice blokes and I've nothing against them but they live on another planet compared to what some of us have to put up with.

When you are at the other end getting bullied, abused, picked on,treated unfairly and shafted by getting moved all the time until you are so depressed you lie awake most of the night dreading going in again the next day..life isn't quite so grand.

Yep. I understand. The stress I find of being a reserve is rather much. Aside from Brexit I agree with pretty much all you said. The perks come at a price - your mental, physical and leisure time health. It will always be hell for reserves and I think you need to be very laid back and tolerant to enjoy it. A duty holder only has to worry a few weeks a year which reserve he/she will be paired with when their partner is off - the reserve has to worry every week, sometimes every day.

Understand exactly. Im on the verge of jacking it in. Sick of being treaded like sh1t on a daily basis. Constant arguments re overtime. Constantly not paying o/t. Seniority ignored so favourites get put on better runs. Part time contract over 6 days useless for family life. National agreements ignored. Union not really doing anything to help. So Ill leave as soon as poss. Shame cos job is good. Just ruined by management.

totaly agree left rm sat, so sick of the crap you have to put up with ,rounds to big ,walking 6/7 hours a day since bikes gone,rounds not equal ,union not doing nothing etc etc good luck to all left,glad im out to get my life back life is to short,
