This year’s survey results are now available – and managers and their teams need to prepare their action plans.
The NWDC late shift team had a 100% response rate to the survey this year, and their engagement index was 83 – 46 points higher than in 2015. Ryan Wellstead, late shift manager at NWDC said success was down to involving the whole team and listening to feedback.
Ryan put his team’s action plan in place by taking a few simple steps. As well as reviewing the plan in the weekly meetings with CWU shift reps, Ryan focused on listening to feedback from the people on his team.
He said: ‘People felt they weren’t being listened to, for example they wanted training on equipment. We worked together with the CWU to build a robust training plan and as a result team members who were trained became more proactive.’
There has also been more recognition and acknowledgment of good performance, with thank you cards, and treats such as donuts and cookies, which the team appreciated. Ryan gathers them together regularly to applaud exceptional performers and celebrate success.
‘The first time the team clapped and applauded us exceeding a goal was something I will remember and it was then I knew they were fully engaged,’ Ryan said.
