http://marketing.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Target-McConnells-Painted-Boxes-Royal-Mail-to-mark-Rising.jpgTarget McConnells has repainted 10 post boxes in Dublin city and county Royal Mail red for an An Post campaign to mark the 1916 Rising centenary. The GPO Witness History initiative uses post boxes at landmark sites around the capital’s streets, along with free video links, to sell stories about some of the events which occurred in Dublin 100 years ago.

Historian Mick O’Farrell acted as an advisor. The 10 An Post postboxes boxes repainted in Royal Mail red, the colour they were in 1916, are located at St Stephen’s Green, Grafton Street, Liberty Hall, the Four Courts, Royal College of Surgeons, Dún Laoghaire pier, Mount Street, Haddington Road, O’Connell Street and the General Post Office (GPO) itself.

Members of the public are invited to freetext a keyword featured on their chosen postbox before receiving a video link on their smartphone. It plays a short video of the events that took place at the exact spot in which they stand. A question posed at the end of each video further engages the viewer with the story they have just witnessed.

Details are also provided of how to use a smartphone to book for the GPO Witness History Visitor Centre, one of the State’s 2016 ‘Permanent Reminder’ projects. The campaign runs until May. Pictured beside one of the red postboxes are Abi Moran (right), Target McConnells, Anna McHugh, An Post with ‘rebel snipers’ Dave Swift and Andrea Farrell.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It was interesting look at pre 1922 post boxes over painted in green with the old royal cypher on it and post 1922 with An Post on it using an obviously British design post box.
