West Midlands Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the incident at the company's depot in Coventry

A DHL worker was killed and three colleagues injured when a stack of tyres fell on top of them in a freak accident.

The victim was working in an office block when a metal storage container filled with tyres crashed through the roof.

Night shift workers desperately tried to free the 50-year-old and his three colleagues from beneath the tyres.

One man, who has not been named, suffered a heart attack and died after being taken to hospital.

Another worker remains seriously ill with head injuries while two others were discharged after receiving treatment.

An investigation is now underway into the incident at the DHL Supply Chain logistic centre in Coventry on Tuesday morning.

West Midlands Police said: "We are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive to establish the cause of this incident."

DHL confirmed the man's tragic death and said a "full investigation" will take place into the tragedy.
