Pay deal ends in march
I just read that the 3 year pay deal agreed buy the union and royal mail ends in march, Does this mean royal mail will try to renegotiate a lower wage for us?, can they do this and will the union fight against this.

Re: Pay deal ends in march
No I doubt it will be lowered.
However get ready for the 'We've not had a good Christmas' so therefore the challenges facing the business blah blah (insert a lot of waffle speak here, winds of change, competition etc) and in order to keep jobs (that will be the line fed to CWU) - there will be a none or maybe 0.5% increase at absolute max.
I'm not holding out for anything else to be honest.

Re: Pay deal ends in march
There is absolutely no question that RM management will have made up a list of all the things they plan to do once the pay deal ends. This was likely ready before the deal was made, the list will only have go longer over the last near 3 years. This is a private company now and as RM management already act in a ruthless way this it is certain the ruthlessness will get far worse - psycopathic maybe?
REMEMBER ALL POSTIES - you can get fired by RM management for something you didn't do! And even if you get the criminal conviction chucked out of court and win your employment tribunal for reinstatement (only 1% cases win this) RM will simply ignore the legal ruling and leave you broken, chucking you an insulting payout that lucky for them is capped by the UK government, even though you worked loyally for them for 27 years, going way beyond any call of duty and loved by your customers. Re: Pay deal ends in march
I agree with the Previous Posts....Don't expect anything ...and you might be surprised......although I doubt it. By now ALL Posties should have woken up to the way Royal Mail will work in the future. Unfortunately not every Postie visits this site. If they did they'd be aware of what's happening in other DOs....even if it hasn't rocked their own little world...YET!
We can no longer work on the principle (and I haven't for many years) that you will be rewarded or appreciated for going that extra mile. It doesn't matter that you haven't been off sick for donkeys or that all your customers love you because you're a wonderful Postie. The will still Crap on you when it suits them!
We all have to "Work Properly"( I'm sure we all know what that means by now), stop doing all these "Little Favours" for Management (unless they give you the time & pay for it) And for God's Sake don't leave yourselves open to disciplinary actions by doing anything stupid.

I think you will find that there will be no pay rise but a reduction in the working week, They are scrapping all our lapsing duties and putting them out as normal deliveries in rediness for this at our D O

If they want our paid meal relief they'll be offering us a lump sum in return for it. Would have to be a lot though for me to accept.

Can't see paid breaks being lost, that would face serious opposition. Although having said that how many firms pay breaks nowadays?Creditshampoo wrote:If they want our paid meal relief they'll be offering us a lump sum in return for it. Would have to be a lot though for me to accept.
Could this be a sign of things to come ..
Starbucks is cutting paid lunch breaks, sick leave and maternity benefits for thousands of British workers, sparking fresh anger over its business practices.
On the day the House of Commons' public accounts committee branded the US coffee chain's tax avoidance practices "immoral", baristas arriving for work were told to sign revised employment terms, which include the removal of paid 30-minute lunch breaks and paid sick leave for the first day of illness. Some will also see pay increases frozen.
http://www.theguardian.com/business/201 ... nch-breaks" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; On paid 30-minute lunch breaks, it said: "We considered that many businesses don't pay for lunch breaks. It is meant to be a break from work to have lunch and we therefore believe the long break should not be paid. We have decided to keep the 10-minute break paid as this is for a short-relief break for shifts of four hours or more".

Re: Pay deal ends in march
I heard some doom and gloom on this site but I can't believe after year after of year of good pay rises and other protections people believe we are going to have less pay , no paid meal reliefs and going to lose our supplement what is this based on ?
Certainly not on Royal Mail's profit statement.
We will have to think of what is the union's priorities in the pay deal know the strategy which Royal Mail want over the next 5 years.
The shorter working week is something we need to look at , however does the shorter working week mean as much for mail centre staff ? Logstics staff do not get any reduction in the working week they get it in pay.
Currently if you discount paid meal reliefs than OPGs full time OPGs work around 35 hours 40 mins per week. It is true that if you reduce the working week on a Tuesday in some delivery offices they will drop the time allowed for meal reliefs. However no one is up for removing paid meal reliefs in fact if delivers are too long now why would we not be looking at a longer meal relief. The problem with a longer meal relief is the amount of OPGs who ingnore meal reliefs now.
However this may cease when the New computer package is introduced called Automated Production Control which works on a similar way to RFID but on an individual basis it will be an OPG clocking in clocking out system including certain tasks as well.
I have been in Royal Mail for almost 31 years and when I started we were on 43 hours , 6 day week for around £8 grand a year. Pay has improved , attendances have improved but we have only dropped 4 hours in 30 years and we need to reduce to protect jobs but every hour off the working is 2.4% on the pay bill.
This years pay deal is going to be difficult due to Royal Mail's desire to move to one wave along with further delivery officer mergers.
Remember you will vote for any deal. Equally you can if you get involved shape the deal.

Re: Pay deal ends in march
I don't see how the Royal Mail can offer less than the last deal. Austerity was then the buzz word, private and public sector pay rises were scarce, it seemed just keeping your job amounted to an increase. Now we are seeing burgeoning pay awards as employment continues to rise. The mistake Moya Greene made was sanctioning the last deal in that enviroment.

The fact it's a fully privatised company now. If there's money to be saved by not paying the workforce for breaks that's effectively translated into profit for the shareholders.dingo wrote:I heard some doom and gloom on this site but I can't believe after year after of year of good pay rises and other protections people believe we are going to have less pay , no paid meal reliefs and going to lose our supplement what is this based on ?
The days of RM as a government institution ambling along are gone sadly. There's financial hawks scrutinizing every aspect of the business now.
