Bank holiday entitlement for part time staff?
My contract is for 20 hours a week, Wednesday to Saturday.
My contract says 'If you are employed on a part-time basis you will have your bank holiday entitlement adjusted in accordance with the Harmonisation of Part Time Conditions of Service Agreement, details of which can be found on the Police and Information Site.'
Can anyone tell me what this actually means please?
Thank you.

Re: Bank holiday entitlement for part time staff?
I am sure you would be entitled to 7 Bank holidays for working 4 days per week.peshwaarinaan wrote:My contract is for 20 hours a week, Wednesday to Saturday.

This is based on pro-rata calculation 4/5ths of 8 (b/h) = 6.4 days rounded up to 7.

Is that how it works? That's great thanks for that. I only started in July so if Monday 28th December is a BH then they will owe me a day based on:
August BH - was off as it was a Monday
Christmas Day - off (Friday)
Boxing Day - off (Sat)
NYD - off (Friday)
Monday 28th Dec - off
So I'm entitled to 4/5 of 5 bank holidays and will have been off for 3.
Thank you rogersh

Re: Bank holiday entitlement for part time staff?
Having read clause 14 it appears you are entitled to 8 bank holidays as you attend four days per week . Apologies for the error, (4/5ths of EIGHT) ,but obviously to your advantage.peshwaarinaan wrote:rogersh wrote:I am sure you would be entitled to 7 Bank holidays for working 4 days per week.peshwaarinaan wrote:My contract is for 20 hours a week, Wednesday to Saturday.

Harmonisation Agreement
13. Annual leave entitlements for part-time employees will be based on length of service, as for full-time employees, and service will not be reduced or adjusted because employees are part-time. If a whole week's leave is broken into odd days, it will be equivalent to the number of attendance's to which the part-time employee is conditioned during that week.
Any balance of entitlement in odd days for employees conditioned to three or fewer attendances during a week will be reduced pro-rata to a five day week (rounded to the nearest half day). The same arrangements will apply to full-time employees in the same position.
14. The annual Bank, Public and Royal Mail Group Holidays will give part-time employees an equivalent benefit of full-time employees. Part-time employees conditioned to at least four weekly attendance's will be entitled to the same number of days off as full-time employees, and where their attendance is constructed so as to "miss" a particular holiday an equivalent day off should be given as near to the appropriate holiday as possible.
Where a part-time employee is conditioned to three or fewer weekly attendance's, the total entitlement should be reduced pro-rata to a five day week (rounded to the nearest half day). Where the pattern of their attendance would either "miss" or "hit" fewer or more holidays than the entitlement then it should be adjusted accordingly during the weeks adjacent to the holidays concerned. Wherever possible this should be done by pre-scheduling the desired attendance pattern in advance across the year. The same arrangements will apply to full-time employees in the same position.

Re: Bank holiday entitlement for part time staff?
Hi,
Where can I find a copy of the 'Harmomisation of Part Time Conditions of Service Agreement' document to read on the Policy and Information site please?
I am a part time employee and need to find out what bank holidays I am owed as the bosses seem to be brushing me off every time I ask them about them! Telling me some rubbish that I am not entitled to them even though in my contract it says that I am?
I work 5 days a week on a 25 contract + overtime and have been doing the job a year now. Am I entitled the same bank holidays as a full timer? Which is 8?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Bank Holiday entitlement is based on days per week attendance and nothing else. On BH as with leave you get paid your contracted hours.

Re: Bank holiday entitlement for part time staff?
I went to my DOM today armed with a copy of this and told him my leave entitlement needed to be adjusted as I was entitled to 7 BH credits for 2016-2017 (I'd get Good Friday off anyway).Glenno wrote:Check this out, it explains what you wanted to know![]()
He told me he didn't think so and that I'd only get a day back if I was on annual leave on a week when a bank holiday fell. I tried to argue my case but he wasn't convinced and said he'd look into it. There is NO WAY I'm backing down on this!!!!!!!!

Re: Bank holiday entitlement for part time staff?
No i have not, my info was found on this site. According to MY ROYAL MAIL - me at work - employment policies - time off. The full details of each policy are available from the Policy and Information section of PSP. Ask your manager for a copy if you do not have access.peshwaarinaan wrote:rogersh, have you got a link to the Harmonisation Agreement please?rogersh wrote:Having read clause 14 it appears you are entitled to 8 bank holidays as you attend four days per week . THIS WAS POSTED WHEN PSP CHANGE MEANT ANNUAL LEAVE WAS CALCULATED BY HOURS,NOT WEEKS;
The annual leave purchase scheme remains unaffected by this change over to PSP.
Bank & Public Holidays
Normal Bank Holiday arrangements will continue to apply. Employees who work a bank holiday will continue to get either overtime or a day in lieu. The number of hours worked on the Bank Holiday will be credited back into the annual leave quota* (as a bank holiday day off in lieu). The system automatically credits hours worked back to the employee when the correct bank holiday payment is selected. Arrangements for part timers will continue to be pro-rated to ensure everyone is treated fairly regardless of the days in the week they work.
*For clarity where an individual works 2 hours or more and they choose a day in lieu they will be credited with hour’s equivalent to their average attendance for that week.
Where an individual’s rest day coincides with a Bank Holiday they will have the option of being credited with a day in lieu equivalent to the hours they would normally work on that day or alternatively they can claim BH excess equivalent to the hours they would normally work on that day
