Threat of pay being stopped

A member in my unit has been told he is likely to have his pay stopped with immediate effect after he didn't return to work this morning. He was on 1 weeks annual leave, abroad, his wife was involved in road traffic accident and is in hospital in that country, he is with her. Can his pay be stopped with immediate effect?

short answer is yes it can, he does have a right to dependant leave which means he can take the time off but there is no right to insist that it's paid, he can ask for special leave which may be granted and may be paid or unpaid but that is all at the discretion of the dom, also he may be able to use any annual leave not already taken again at the discretion of the dom, I would strongly recommend speaking to area rep to see if cwu can be of any assistance to him
