Pound Hill post office to be open on Sundays for first time

A NEIGHBOURHOOD post office has got the stamp of approval to offer Sunday services for the first time and longer hours throughout the week.

The Royal Mail is going to modernise the Post Office branch on Pound Hill Parade.

From October 16 it will be open seven days a week and the opening hours will be extended by 38 hours a week.

The branch will not have to close in the lead-up because the main difference will be the installation of a service point at the retail counter, which can be added out of hours.

When the changes have been made, there will be four serving positions.

There will be three main screened counters, which will be open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5.30pm.

A post office service point will be open to customers on Monday and Thursday from 6am to 6pm.

Then, on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, the service point will be open from 6am to 7.30pm. Sunday hours will be 6am-1pm.

These times mean post office services will be available on Sunday mornings and Saturday afternoons for the first time.

Customers will be able to make cash withdrawals from a Post Office card account, renew car tax, send funds abroad, pay bills, buy holiday money, get insurance or mortgages and top up mobile phones.

Mail services will include sending parcels internationally and special delivery options.

Post Office area manager Keith Long said: "We know how important Post Office services are to residents in this area.

"We are confident this vibrant, modern post office, at the heart of the community, will be popular."
