Questions about working at another office

Hi, ive tried searching but could not find an answer.

I just wanted to know if you are sent to another office, should you get paid for the extra time it takes you to get there.

For instance it takes me 15minutes to get to my normal place of work as I use my car. However the office I'll be working is over an 1hr 30mins away and I can't use my car, so will be going by train. Even though they suggested I could. The train fare will be given back to me.

Office has not got any available vans for me to travel with. This is the first time I've been asked to work at another office. Not happy as I was informed today and I'm due to go tomorrow.

I got sent to another office and was told to sign in at my office and sign out there, if the other office could not pick me up I was to get a bus and I would get it back.

You travel on their time, not yours.

If that's during your duty hours and from your actual office or if they agree OT and you are OK with it, it's fine.
But, don't travel in your own time.

You should only use your own private vehicle if:

1) You want to/are happy to
2) You have business insurance
3) They agree to pay expenses - i.e. travelling allowance (T&S?) of approx. 45p per mile (more if there are 2 of you in the car).

I am not using my own car as I have no business insurance. I am a part timer on a 9-2pm contract but been working full time for 3yrs.

As the earliest train is 6:30am I will lose 2hrs overtime as I will get there after 8. Taking a taxi is not an option as I have been quoted £60 one way, thats if I chose to work at 6am like I have been. I understand this is overtime so should not be taken into consideration.

I just want to know as it would normally take me 15 minutes to get to work and 15mins to get home once I am done, should I at least get paid for the extra 2/3hrs commute as it is not my main office.

There is an agreement that you travel in work time both there and back and it's the companies responsibility to get you there and back

OP, this situation sounds well dodgy to me!

As far as I'm aware, you should be reporting at your normal depot at your agreed start time (contract start time or perhaps early start overtime).

Your depot should then transport you to the temporary depot, while you are being paid to be transported there.

You should then be transported back to your normal depot while being paid, either to arrive back at your normal depot before your contract finish time or agreed late overtime.

Now if your normal depot managers have requested you to get yourself to the other depot and back, you should be getting reimbursed for the travel ticket(s) (possibly excluding costs to account for the travel between your home and normal depot) and you should be paid for the travel time both ways (again, possibly excluding some time to account of your home to normal depot travel time) if they are asking you to travel before/after your contracted hours.

It is really bad that the managers allow other part timers to use their own vehicle to go to other offices, unless they have business insurance but I highly doubt it.

Your rep should know that you are covered by agreement so why not tell him?

I'm with direct line and have business insurance included my policy. Not that I would ever tell a Dom.
5/10 minutes travel is one thing, but hour and half I'm sure it is down to office you will be working at to agree to any extra money/ travelling time. But if you're already there why would they. Think you may get stiffed on that one. Nice to see our reps being as helpful as always.

Your rep should know that you are covered by agreement so why not tell him?
