The UK’s second largest postal operator, Whistl, has officially opened its new Scottish depot in Tannochside after moving from Coatbridge.

Whistl, formerly known as TNT Post, moved from its existing operation to a new 54,000 sq ft home, treble the size, as part of the firm’s continued expansion.


Whistl has operated in Scotland over the past nine years and collects and sorts an average of two million items of mail a week before handing over to Royal Mail for delivery.


Across the UK, the company handles 3.75 billion items of mail per year.

The company collects mail and packets from 250 individual collection points across Scotland, with 1,200 clients in the public and private sector including Aegon and Standard Life.

There are daily collections from as far as Inverness and Elgin, with the Western Isles Council being the most remote customer, who use Whistl for its Hybrid Mail services.

The Tannochside depot is highly automated and the site employs 150 people in a wide range of jobs including operations and transport and has developed roles for young people starting out in work through the Whistl apprenticeship scheme.

Whistl CEO Nick Wells was joined by Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill MP Phil Boswell who performed the ribbon cutting duty.

Mr Wells said: “The tripling of our capacity in Scotland with Tannochside will allow Whistl to further expand our customer base and continue to provide a high quality and cost efficient service.
