Residents claim 'Neath Post office is not delivering'

RESIDENTS living in Neath have complained that the town's new Post Office is not delivering on service.

Earlier this year Neath's crown Post Office closed its doors for the last time, after bosses agreed to place the service into WHSmith, despite much opposition from residents.

Now people living in the town have hit out saying the new store location is too small and there is not enough privacy.

Julie Ellis, from Neath, said although she found the staff had been doing a good job, there were not enough people working there and the Post Office section of the store was far too small to cope with the amount of customers.

She said: "I had to go into the Post Office four times on Tuesday because the queue was so big. The aisles are too small – it is quite claustrophobic. It really is lacking space, I don't know how people with wheelchairs and buggies use it. It is too small and there are not enough staff working there. This is supposed our main Post Office."

Ms Ellis said she would no longer us the WHSmith Post Office and would go to the CK's store instead.

Cimla councillor John Warman who campaigned to keep the crown Post Office open in the town, said his constituents had contacted him with concerns about the new facility. He said: "We had reservations in the beginning that it would not work because it was too small. We had concerns about access for wheelchairs."

Mr Warman said residents had raised the issue of privacy with him. "Everyone is too close — they are all close together. There is no privacy."

Neath MP Christina Rees said: "Both residents and Neath Town Council have been in touch about the current situation, I intend to setup a meeting as quickly as possible to look at ways of improving the service for the benefit of all."

A Post Office spokesman said: "We have not received any negative feedback or are aware of any customer issues relating to privacy matters at our Post Office branch within WHSmith in Neath. We will look into the situation and take any remedial steps that are required."
