New recruitment process for posties

Post by otis_b_flywheel »

I've applied for lots of postie jobs over the past two years, and apart from a Christmas casual job and one interview (unsuccessful) have had no luck. This year the on-line process has changed. It now looks like a bit like a software package that was bought off the shelf, and it's quite hard to figure out how to convince Royal Mail recruitment that you really want the job e g there doesn't now seem to be anywhere to state why you want to work as a postie. There is a list of very basic questions - right to work in UK, driving licence etc, and then you are asked to attach a CV, but there seems to be a gap in between.
Am I missing something? Can anyone help please?

Otis,

the automation makes it difficult ie you can't use a covering letter to say 'Apprentice' style 'It's all I ever wanted to do' and all the other
cliches we come out with to try and get a foot in the door. Probably that's why they've done it - recruiting managers got sick of
reading all the bull people come out with on their covering letters.

You've got to use your CV to demonstrate your best and relevant qualities/achievements/qualifications as best you can - hopefully that'll
then get you to the interview stage (if you've passed the multi guess mind game on line tests   ).

Go for it!

Ah yes, the scary tests - I've passed the last few I've done, so here's hoping, and in the past have probably written more than my fair share of the bull ;-)
Thanks for your helpful feedback anyhow - I did my best with the CV.
