I see some jobs offer a car allowance for royal mail. Is this just cash or is there a choice of a car instead of the money?

There is no car allowance in Royal mail. There is a system of mileage allowance but that's only claimable in certain circumstances.

You also cannot choose a car, they are all vans anyway. Vans are allocated to duties and in some offices they may allow Van retention at home, again though only in certain circumstances and with strict controls.

To be honest not sure what you asking, but I guess that these are the only 2 likely scenarios you are asking about.
