Mental health

Post by jp196772 »

Firstly my. Grammarvis rubbish so please excuse mistakes. I've had. A mental health disability since 2010 when i lost. My twin sister to a fire related incident the following year had two breakdowns not to mention lots of issues relating to my mental health disability.
Last week and todays work time learning session royal Mail have put great emphasis on being more compassionate towards mental health sufferes i have to strongly disagree with this because managers who have been supportive has not always been the case ive been called slow shortly after todays W. T. L. session i was accused of not working hard enough to anyone suffering from mental illness it is very damaging to to the person concerned. Iam grateful for a job ive held for 23 yrs. I suspect royal Mail have lost alot of man hours relating to mental health and should have addressed this issue long ago. Royal Mail has finished alot of things one great thing they used to do was team building weekends away which would be ideal for M. H. sufferes. Compared to most companies royal Mail is a good employer. But i wish they would all go on a disability awareness course this would give them a better understanding especially those who have a long term M. H. which is classed as a disability and any absence relating to that cannot be counted as a normal absence under the disability act. Im sure if royal Mail would be willing in a specialist centre dedicated to M. H. sufferers would in the long run would save them alot of money in less sick absence iam in no way being critical of royal Mail im just speaking of my experience. I have lots more to say but don't know how to say it so i would very much appreciate any member of royal Mail board especially Moyra green feedback would be very much appreciated any questions the board of royal Mail would like to ask please do. Thank you for listening

Hi, just seen your post. Very brave and honest to speak openly about m/h. I am brand new to R M at interview I was very honest about my own m/h and I kind of hoped on some level it got me the job (the honesty that is) I hope my experience with management and other colleagues regarding my own m/h should there be a need or want to discuss it is a positive one. Your reference to more needs to be done is spot on, this applies to almost every business/company. What always astounds me is how people find empathy for people who are unfortunate enough to suffer from a physical illness although the person may themselves have never suffered from it but finding empathy for someone with m/h is a bridge too far for many. Anyway I digress, I thought to comment as I noticed your post and thought it was refreshing to see someone speak openly so fair play.

Best Regards

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
