Maidenhead:9 post boxes broken into in Sunday morning raids

Nine post boxes were broken into on Sunday morning and the mail inside stolen.

Mail was stolen from mail boxes in Switchback Road North in Maidenhead, Westwood Green in Cookham, Hawthorn Lane by Burnham Beeches, Littleworth Road in Burnham, Hedsor Hill Top in Bourne End, Hedsor Hill Bottom in Bourne End, Camden Road in Maidenhead, Waltham Vicarage in White Waltham and Church Hill, also in White Waltham.

Thames Valley Police have issued a statement saying that it believes the incidents to be linked.

A sledgehammer or similar heavy object was used to break into the post boxes between 2am and 4am.

Royal Mail will fix or replace the post boxes where possible, but can not confirm when this work will be completed.

Sgt Adrian Blades, from Maidenhead police station, said: “Officers are investigating the possible theft of mail and I would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened.
“I would also appeal to anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the early hours of Sunday in the areas where the post boxes were damaged.

“If you have any information which could help police enquiries or believe you may be a victim of the theft please speak to an officer.”
