Residents claim new post office service in supermarket is failing town

RESIDENTS in Walton claim their new Post Office service is struggling to cope.

The town’s post office has moved from a dedicated High Street building into the Co-op supermarket across the road.

But users claimed it had been struggling to cope since the switch.

John Halls, who runs the Walton Community Project office, said: “So far, moving the post office has been an absolute disaster.

“People are constantly coming into the office to say they are not getting on well with the new service.

“The Co-op has not been able to cope with the volume of people going in there and people haven’t been able to do basic things like buy stamps and get their pensions.

“These are important things for a lot of people in Walton.

“Something has got to be done because at the moment, it is failing our town.”

Mr Halls said the service should be moved back into the dedicated building, which is owned by the Walton Forum.

Post Office bosses said they were working to make the new system run smoothly.

A spokesman said: “The Walton Post Office has recently been taken over by the East of England Co-op.

“Both the East of England Co-op and the Post Office take customer service really seriously.

“Steps have been taken to improve service in the branch, and we will continue to monitor it to see if the situation needs further improvement.”
