York postie prepares for charity challenge

http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/resources/images/3912047/A TEAM of Royal Mail staff are taking on a tough challenge to cycle and run the 30 miles from the mail centre in Leeds to York.

The 12- strong team will cycle 16 miles and then jog a steady 14 miles into the Leeman Road centre in York in order to raise as much money as possible for Breast Cancer Care.

Royal Mail worker Jon Morris organised the event after his niece Cathy Dean, a mum to two young children was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 37.

Jon said: "Cathy has undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy and is now thankfully currently getting back to her jolly smiley self. Breast Cancer Care have been a great support throughout her treatment. Cathy's family would like to thank them for all their help. So that's why this team of willing Royal Mail workers have decided to help me and the Deans.

"What I am hoping to do is to make as many young mums aware as possible that it's not older woman that need to check and make sure all is okay.

"Cathy has always said that Breast Cancer Care have been great. Before, during and now, she says that they are more for younger ladies and are lovely. This challenge is our way of saying thanks for all their help."

Jon said they had planned to jog the whole way but his daughter Emily had suggested they cycle and run to make it more manageable.

Those taking part in the challenge are Jeff Dean who is Cathy's dad, Brendon Taylor, Ste Aaron, Josh Marsden, Paul Noon, Sean Martindale, Ed Harris, Jenny Harries, Gary Edmonds, Chris Squires and Graham Crosbie. Paul Turner will be the money collector and Stu Precious the bike transporter.
