Six Royal Mail postboxes stolen across Devon and Cornwall

Royal Mail postboxes have been ripped out of the ground and off walls or posts six times across Devon and Cornwall in recent years.

As well as having potential scrap value, the cast iron boxes also have a potential huge resale value of up to £5,000 each.

Devon and Cornwall Police have registered six stolen postboxes in the area since 2012.

The first was a post box and metal fixture ripped from the ground by force.

In 2012 a Victorian-style box was cut from a post.

In 2013 another was ripped from a brick wall.

In the last few months a post box was removed from a stand and taken in Liskeard.

None of the boxes have been recovered.

Older Victorian-style boxes have been known to sell for up to £5,000 while those dating to from around 1910 sell for around £1,000.

There are several listings of postboxes currently live on eBay for up to £2,000.
