Former Hunts Post office manager fondly remembered

Janet, who was church warden at St Mary’s Church, Huntingdon, and also treasurer of the church council, died at Hinchingbrooke Hospital on May 14 after a short illness.

She was born in Ellington, where she met her husband Ted, and the couple married in 1951 and later moved to Huntingdon.

Janet started working at The Hunts Post in 1945 after leaving school and left to have her son Duncan in 1952, but returned to work a few years later.

Former work colleagues and family describe her as a friendly and considerate person who put others first and was always there for her family and friends.

Janet was well known throughout the town and beyond for her role as office manager at the newspaper and also for the work she did for St Mary’s.

She is survived by her husband Ted, son Duncan, daughter-in-law Bridget (formerly Thompson) and grandson Brendan who is a London-based fashion photographer.

A private family funeral was held on Wednesday (May 27) at Cambridge Crematorium. Donations to St Mary’s Church Legacy and Fabric Fund.
