Postie Dave hangs up his mailbag after 20 years
IT was a red letter day for village postie Dave Everitt who has retired after serving Birch for more than two decades.
First class postman Dave Everitt, 66, has delivered his final letter in Birch where he has become “part of the family” since he started there in 1994.
A typical round in the area would take a postie three hours, but Dave confessed his could take anywhere up to five once he had got round all his friends.
He said: “I loved that job. I was getting paid for socialising really and the people were the best thing about it.
Dave, of Boadicea Way, Colchester, lives with his two brothers, Ken and Steve, and mum Joan.
The Three Villages Community Association, is hosting a farewell party for Dave at Birch Memorial Hall between 3pm and 5pm tomorrow.
