Scam mail warning after 'Football Lottery' con in Essex

RESIDENTS in south Essex are being warned not to fall for scam mail dropping through their letterboxes.

Essex County Council Trading Standards has been made aware of an incident of a resident being sent a scam letter stating they had won the “Football Lottery”.

The victim was asked to post a considerable amount of cash in order to receive the cheque, pictured with the victim’s name on it in the initial correspondence.

Sadly the victim was sucked in by this and lost their money.

A message from Essex Police’s community messaging service said: “Once the letters are replied to, the residents’ personal details are often added to a list of potential targets. which are then circulated to other fraudsters.”
