If you thought social media was quicker than sending a letter, you clearly haven't met Royal Mail's Twitter team, who today managed to deliver a tweet a day late.

Punning on yesterday's date, May 4, the service tweeted: "Happy (belated) Star Wars day! If you've got a question then please lightspeed it to us before 6pm."

"Star Wars day" is celebrated worldwide by fans of the sci-fi series on May 4 each year.

Its owes its existence to the pun "May the fourth be with you" - derived from the famous Star Wars line "may the force be with you".

The joke's unlikely origin is believed to be the Conservative Party, which took out an ad in the Evening Standard congratulating Margaret Thatcher on her election win on May 4, 1979, reading: "May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie."
