I've had a conditional offer for a 'delivery with driving' role and am waiting for HR to complete references & searches. I'd like to get ready for my first week & like to know what people prefer for sun screen and socks!
Sun screen: I've had family recommend 'Riemann P20, Once A Day Sun Protection, 10 hrs Sun Protection, Very Water Resistent, Quick Drying' you can get on Amazon, the downside is you have to let it dry first or it can stain white/ light coloured clothing. They're retired and spend weeks/ months in Spain and they & their friends use it.
Socks: Over the last few weeks I've been going for walks (at a pace) to build up my stamina, a few were 15-18 miles. I found socks with a thick thread [sort of 'thermal socks'] my feet got hot & started getting soft/ sore on the underside after about 7 miles whereas a finer thread were much less sore maybe upto 10 miles; the best socks so far have been some fine weave M&S socks which have built in padding on the underside [xmas present!]. I already have some dedicated long disance running left & right socks which I'm going to try this week. Also I think in Millets &/or Blacks you can get 'guranteed no blisters' socks. NB After 9 miles changing your socks to a cool, clean, dry pair feels so good!! Maybe that's a tip - just in case have a spare pair (or 2) of socks in your kit??!
Just as a side note is it worth buying an A-Z book? For my first week or two I'm thinking having a hard copy of a map I can pull out my pocket might be reassuring or do newbies get printouts of maps they might need?

socks and sunscreen are usually personal preference though I would get a high PF to start with, nothing worse than sunburn.
A - Z book - yes good idea but if you have a smartphone that can run google maps/street view - thats even better as you can use it to see what the area looks like.
