Redundancies after big shake-up at delivery firm DPD HQ

A reorganisation at delivery company DPD's headquarters in Smethwick has resulted in 16 staff taking redundancy, the firm has revealed.

A total of 28 jobs have gone in the homeworking and coaching departments at the huge Roebuck Lane parcel depot, but 12 staff have taken alternative roles within the business.

The reorganisation at Smethwick follows DPD's investment of £4 million a centralised customer services department, upgrading systems and automating some processes which has reduced its reliance on manually-created reports.

The company said that, alongside major changes to the way it now interacts with customers, had resulted in the loss of the 28 roles.

DPD employs around 2,000 people at its headquarters in Smethwick and at its depot in Oldbury, part of a UK workforce now 9,000 strong following two years of major growth in the UK that has seen it creating around 1,000 jobs a year.

DPD is part of the GeoPost UK group, which is in turn owned by La Poste, France's mail carrier and the second largest postal delivery operation in Europe.
