Woman avoids jail after conspiring with gang to import Class B drugs

A 23-year-old Whitwell woman has a 12 month prison sentence hanging over her for her part in a gang conspiracy to import Class B drugs into the UK.

Codie Jones, of Southfield Lane, pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiring to import the Class B drugs along with a gang of three men from Derbyshire at Derby Crown Court on Friday 30th January.

She was handed a 12 month jail sentence, suspended for a year.

The case against the gang began in March 2013 when a suspicious package from China was intercepted by Border Force officers and opened. It was found to contain the drug M Cat.

It was addressed to one of the gang members, Matthew Henson, age 31, of Newbold, and he was later arrested.

Henson’s phone was seized and messages on the phone led officers to Jones, who was arrested together with her partner George Clarke, 30, of Barrow Hill.

Other packages were intercepted from China and India which police linked to Jones and Clarke. Further inquiries implicated the final member Kevin Musson, 25, of Clay Cross, in the operation.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police said: “This was a complex investigation involving officers from our organised crime team, Border Force UK and the Royal Mail. Drugs were being imported from abroad and sold on.”

“This case shows that we take drug importation seriously and will pursue those involved in the crime.”

Matthew Henson and George Clarke were each given 33 months after pleading guilty to two counts of conspiring to import class B drugs and two counts of conspiring to supply class B drugs.

Kevin Musson was jailed for 18 months after he admitted conspiring to import class B drugs, possessing a class B drug with intent to supply and producing cannabis.
