stress, suspension & subjugation

Post by soggypaper »

Hi there.
I'm a long service postie from [redacted] and am returning to this board after an extended absence and because, like many, I'm in a spot of bother.

After sick absences from work due to stress and anxiety cause by my (car crash of a private life!) and regular bullying and harassment by Management, who only made my mental health into a stick to beat me with, I was suspended for my OTT workplace banter.
I'm due to return to full working life soon, but with a conduct meeting to take place due to my Inappropriate Conduct (A Brutally Misinterpreted Joke).

The tricky bit is as follow:
I am stating that my joke and such were due to my diminishing mental health, much cause by management creating an Alienating and Toxic workplace environment, which I tried to deal with by self-deprecating humour etc.

The management, however, claim my actions were simple Bad Behaviour and are not interested in my mental health. I'm also expected to Now behave in a manner which is Entirely Contrary to my coworkers. IE: They are allowed to swear, verbally abuse colleagues and make nasty personal or family jokes at the expence of others. In short, the usual workplace banter we all know and expect.

I feel I am being singled out, with no other workers under such scrutiny, as well as having my mental health being simultaneously Ignored and used against me.

Now, if you've made it through this, thank you. And now, any thoughts or advice would be welcome.

Get the union involved as soon as possible, assuming you're a CWU member, and make use of whatever's available regarding your ill health.
Sadly some being allowed to swear, verbally abuse colleagues and make nasty personal or family jokes at the expence of others while others are not is not unusual.

But you can't get in touch direct. You need to be referred by a manager.

My question was for " soggypaper" who made the original posting given his circumstances so sorry for the confusion " Lounge Lizard",
Anyway " soggypaper" your posting stated that management have singled you out for bad behaviour while you are aware that other colleagues continue with the usual office banter personal jokes, innuendos etc.
These actions are highlighted in the " don't does " of the Diversity training" which if you have completed or watched on RMTV at WTLL sessions you would have signed off as having knowledge of the behaviour standards expected from you in the workplace.
If " soggypaper" you have no knowledge of participating in " DIVERSITY TRAINING" then this would be your starting point of your escape tunnel from any charges for bad behaviour that you are expecting to happen.
You will also need to check if management is bringing these alleged charges in relation to a formal complaint received from others in your office as the banter between colleagues which may be acceptable to them may be overheard by others who find the banter to be offensive and this is enough for management to take action.
