Dealing with our vast quantities of post has always involved a huge chain of dedicated people.

Margaret Gibson, Vera Petchell and Mrs Dobbie got to grips with thousands of letters in the Leeds GPO sorting office in 1968 while more mail was arriving in basket loads.

A year later 16-year-old Angela Dunnhill demonstrated the new rectangular post box and the ladies on Albion Street did the same in 1965.

Nowadays the postman’s arch enemy seems to be the dog but the tables were reversed in 1970 when Percy Gorman and Rex, his companion of six years, were a familiar and wonderful sight on the streets of Pudsey.

If one thing hasn't changed ( since 1967 ) it's the stamp design. :thumbup

i do get nostalgic about the early days of the Post Office, talking about the late 80s when they were actively recruiting staff due to the growth of mail and rebate traffic, the work was physical enough but you got away as soon as you posted your last letter, it was a service then all the linos usually gave you 4 hours to clear bills without questioning you.
