Can managers go on strike in support of the CWU?

Post by LondonUNISON »

Not that this matters really, but just curious.

In UNISON managers are allowed in the union (which I think is wrong). One small positive (although the negatives far outweigh this), is that if there is a strike a layer of lower down managers often go on strike (and very, very rarely senior managers, apparently a chief exec went on strike in the last pensions dispute!!!).

Have any managers come out on strike in support? Are they allowed to?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I have to say that from all the reports I've read managers in the post seem like the biggest bunch of f***ers around (other than when I worked in the city and then there aren't any unions and you're surrounded by absolute arsewipes).

I've never seen anything like it in local government. I mean ok most managers scab (although some don't) but they just remain silent about it, they don't heap abuse on workers or mock you for going on strike (well not in my experience anyway, might do elsewhere).

Don't any of them have any conscience? They really sound like scum.

I'm thinking this could become the longest thread in RMC's history.
You've been on here a while and no doubt read lots, they really are a different breed.
Pre this dispute they were bad,now they're really bad, hate to think what it will be like after it all.

Until they actually put into place a system where Managers are employed on qualifications - people skills and the ability to be sympathetic to there worst enemy, then they have not got a hope in HELL of sorting out the current situation that goes on in RM.

Instead they employ ill trained unskilled people who in almost all circumstances have to work with there former work mates who begrudge them bossing them about and they get a kick out of putting the swash sticker on there arm and marching about the office with the air of self importance, thinking that they can command you to do there bidding completely ignoring any laws of the land or negotiated agreements and Health and Safety. There tongues are of the deepest darkest brown and so far shoved up the manager above them's arses.

They stab each other in the back as well as blame the work force for there misdemeanours. They falsify figures and lie through there teeth. and in most cases the more harassment charges they have against them the better the success of getting made up permanent or climbing the career ladder.

Ask any one who is anybody with in the postal ranks if they would sell there souls to become a Royal Mail Manager and the answer would be too blue to put on a good clean forum like this!

I had better stop now because its getting my back up.

We'll stand up alright when there's a battle to fight not just for sodding off on a 5hr day and get paid for 8hrs... d'you know, you may have management skills already and not know it! :left:

The inexperienced managers are the ones that are making the company inefficent, this is the reason why the company is in the positon it is in. Until the company get decent experienced and qualified managers, the company will always be below its competitors such as TNT, UK Mail and DHL. This is what the postal workers are trying to put across to senior management and also the public. We are not striking because we want to we are trying to save our universal postal service. It is not us posties that are overpaid it is the managers, some of them are on graduates salaries without any prior experience or qualifications, perhaps AL and AC should take the managers salaries into consideration, are the really worth the money?

You obviously haven't taken any notice of your employees qualifications and abilities! I know of several of my collegues, who have Degrees. I myself have a College education. :dance :nana :Applause

As for People Skills: just because we don't show it to the likes of you, doesn't mean that we don't show it to the Public. :hmmmm

Why are you, and the Press so fixated on early finishes and money?!? There are even more important issues to deal with. Such as protecting the USO, knowing what our hours are from one day to the next, etc., etc., etc.. :arrrghhh

The secrecy surrounding the negotiations, only makes a bad situation worse. If these aren't good reasons to make a stand, then enlighten us: what would be a battle worth fighting?!? :confused  :arrrghhh

Does anyone know if managers could go on strike with the CWU if they chose to in legal terms?

And isn't there even one example of a manager having any solidarity?!
We'll stand up alright when there's a battle to fight
No you won't. If you won't stand up now you're obviously a spineless ********.

Every report I've heard (both from posties I know and from on here) says that the RM management are absolute scum. I mean how can you stand there and laugh at people and mock people who are trying to save their livelihoods and actually have the guts to do something you wouldn't. You're no better than the coppers who waved their wage packets at the miners.

It also makes me laugh when people get the tiniest bit of power and then thing they're something special. Now that does happen in local government and people do seem to change when they become managers, but nothing like to the extend that happens in RM by the sounds of it. I mean who do they think they are anyway, being a manager in Royal Mail or local government is hardly running the country is it, I mean get a reality check.

How does it feel to know that the workforce all despise you? The rank and file CWU members think you're scum and the senior management think you're gullible mugs who will do their dirty work for them while licking their boots. That's what makes me laugh about your types you'll give it the big one on those who you are managing but quake with fear in front of your senior managers. I pity your partners.

Do not insult my intelligence, and by quoting a figure of 80,000 redundancies just goes to show how stupid and ill informed you are. You would never stand up and fight the corner of the union - just take a look at the CMA waiting in the wings of a settlement on the postal workers before it rears its ugly head. You happily cross picket lines, have ABSOLUTELY NO SYMPATHY OR EMPATHY FOR YOUR WORKERS. And until such times as you realise YOU ARE NOT A MANAGER YOU ARE A "TEAM LEADER" you will always think you are above the people you are trying to organise.

As for any management skills I may possess - I would rather employ those skills in helping my fellow workers by becoming a union rep than ever take up a roll you laughingly call MANAGEMENT - PAH!
