Yeovil woman's fake stamps scam lands her in court

A YEOVIL woman accused of using fake electronic postage stamps to sell items on Ebay has appeared in court facing charges of fraud.

Rachel Clement allegedly used photocopied duplicates of Royal Mail electronic stamps when she sent customers goods they had purchased from her over the internet.

When she appeared before District Judge David Taylor at Yeovil the court was told that the defendant’s alleged scam pocketed her nearly £3,000 in unpaid postal fees.

The 51-year-old, of Rowan Way, was charged that between January 27 and August 23 at Yeovil she dishonestly made a false representation, namely that she had paid for postal services provided by Royal Mail Limited, intending to make a gain of £2,959.24 for herself.

She was further alleged on June 9 to have had in her possession printed numbers and process to be used by Collectables Wiltshire in conjunction with parcels despatched by post with an electronic stamp for use in connection with a fraud.

Clement did not enter pleas to either charge and elected to stand trial at Taunton Crown Court.

The district judge adjourned the case to December 2 when she must appear before a preliminary hearing at Taunton.

In the meantime she was released on unconditional bail.
