Shropshire’s only gold postbox, painted in honour of Paralympic hero Mickey Bushell, has been vandalised.

Councillor Angela McClements noticed that the plaque was missing and police are now investigating.

The postbox, in Arleston Lane, Wellington, Telford, was painted by Royal Mail in celebration of Mickey’s T53 100m gold medal win at the London 2012 Games.

Councillor McClements said: “I was doing my regular walk round the ward yesterday and I always have a look at the postbox. It was then that I noticed the missing plaque.

“Mickey is a hero to everyone in Telford & Wrekin, especially in Arleston. It is the only gold postbox in the whole of Shropshire and I am disappointed and angry someone has seemingly vandalised it.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.

A plaque honouring the achievements of Paralympic hero Mickey Bushell which went missing from the gold postbox it was stuck to in Telford has been found, police have said.


Officers were called in to investigate after ward Councillor Angela McClements noticed it had disappeared from the postbox in Arleston, painted to mark Bushell's exploits at the London 2012 Games.

Police said the plaque had been found at the Royal Mail sorting office in Wolverhampton earlier this week after being put in a postbox.

Pc Rich Hughes, who had been investigating its disappearance, said there was sadly no way to trace where it had been posted from and it had been handed by several people since, making it impossible to find out who took it.

He added: "The commemorative plate that was ripped off the gold post box in Arleston, has been found and will soon be reinstated."

Councillor McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council ward member for Arleston, said: "Mickey is a hero to everyone in Telford & Wrekin, especially in Arleston.

"This is great news. I have been inundated with calls from residents who were angry about the plaque being vandalised and I am absolutely delighted it has been found and that it will be reinstated in its rightful place."

Meanwhile Councillor Angela McClements has diverted local police from more important incidents to investigate this non event.
