Village hall move saves Bancffosfelin Post Office

THE future of a village Post Office has been secured after confirmation it will be moving to the local village hall.

The future of Bancffosfelin Post Office had been in doubt until it was decided in May to base the service in the village hall and for it to be assisted financially by the community council.

Last week the Post Office confirmed that the move will go ahead and that the new branch will be a hosted outreach service, opening in September.

Post Office Regional Network Manager for Wales, Simon Drinkwater said: "I am delighted to confirm a new location for Post Office services to our customers in Bancffosfelen. We understand how important having continued access to Post Office services is to residents in the area and we are confident that this new service, hosted from a community building, will make it easier for our customers to do business with us and also secure services for the future."

The move came about after the current post mistress said she could no longer run the post office and there was little interest within the community in taking over from her.

Councillor Alban Rees said: "The lady that keeps it at the moment was going to finish and the Post Office had advertised but nobody else wanted to take over.

"There had been discussions between Post Office officials and the village hall committee and the community council, and they all come to an agreement."

The council felt it was an important communal facility and decided to contribute funding.

The changes to the branch are part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see over 8000 branches converting to new-style branches.

The new branch will only be open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2pm and 5pm. It will be able to carry out a wide range of Post Office services including currency transfers, withdrawals and access to Post Office financial services.
