Residents in Elmbridge want their postal collection back in Brockworth

MORE than 2,000 letters were sent to residents in Elmbridge to ask if they were happy with the recent Royal Mail changes in their area.

Gloucester MP Richard Graham sent out the surveys and in only one week 563 have responded.

Residents in Elmbridge have to make a 10-mile round trip to Quedgeley to collect their missed post, but many want Royal Mail to reinstate their collection from Brockworth again – a journey of four miles.

So far the survey has shown 98 per cent where unhappy with the change and 92 per cent of residents want to revert back to previous situation. More responses are still coming in.

One constituent, who anonymously responded to the survey, said: “Yes, without a doubt I and all my neighbours would much appreciate a return to collection of parcels being made through the Brockworth delivery office rather than Quedgeley base as it currently stands.

“I had to visit Quedgeley only yesterday and it was nearly a 13 mile round trip, not to mention the traffic crossing town at certain times of the day.

“A return to the Brockworth depot would be most welcome and a logical solution for those of us Elmbridge residents.”

Mr Graham is aiming to get the issues sorted by Christmas.

He said: “In four days well over 500 responses have come in, that is almost a third of Elmbridge residents. Almost all are in favour of collection from Brockworth.

“I hope both figures can be doubled over the next week so that I have a compelling case. The higher the response rate the better the chance of our success. So my message to readers is if you know anyone in Elmbridge urge them to reply, so we can get this sorted before Christmas.”

Laurence Robertson MP for Tewkesbury will also be sending out surveys to those who live in the GL2 post codes such as Longlevens.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “Following recent changes to parcel collections for Tuffley and Grange residents, we have also been liaising with MP Laurence Robertson and MP Richard Graham about potential changes to parcel collections for Elmbridge residents. We will review the situation again once the current survey is closed.”

Back in June, Mr Graham sent out the same survey to Tuffley and Grange residents, who were forced to take a 40-minute round trip to pick up missed post in Brockworth instead of their original collection point less than a mile away in Quedgeley.

Following the success of the survey Royal Mail reinstated a Quedgeley collection point this month.

Now Elmbridge residents are hoping to get a similar outcome, which means they can use Brockworth as their collection point.
