Hunt for post thieves who stole bank card and PIN from pensi

Brazen post thieves rifled through a pensioner's mail to find her new bank card and PIN number before withdrawing hundreds of pounds from her account.

They targeted the 72-year-old's house, in the Delves area of Walsall, twice in a manner of days - lifting the letters straight out of her porch within minutes of the postman dropping them off.

CCTV images of men suspected of being involved in the theft have now been released by police.

The woman spotted one man at her porch during the thieves' second visit on April 19 and challenged him, but he told he was a delivery driver collecting a parcel left at the wrong address and drove off in a silver estate, possibly a Hyundai Matrix.

Det Ch Neil Cunnington said the card had been blocked after two withdrawals.

This seems to have been a fairly well planned crime, where the offender has visited the address twice in order to steal first the PIN number and then a new, unregistered card which had been delivered with the usual post.

The thief has gone on to make two maximum daily withdrawals of cash from the account before the card is blocked.

We have made numerous enquiries to date but so far have failed to identify the men pictured, who we believe were working together to commit this crime.

This does appear to be an isolated incident, however we would always urge people to consider their home security, particularly when expecting the delivery of valuable or highly sensitive mail such as bank cards or items containing detailed personal data.
