As part of a major £80m refurbishment of Mount Pleasant, Royal Mail’s flagship London office, Yeoman Shield, the UK’s market leader in wall & door protection has successfully completed a contract in excess of £1m to supply and install a range of standard and specially adapted products.
Being one of The Royal Mail’s largest and busiest mail centres, Mount Pleasant, which houses administration and a delivery office, required specially adapted wall and door protection with the emphasis being on heavy duty protection.
Royal Mail Group Property’s Programme Manager, Paul Bulmer, who is responsible for the deployment of projects in central London, said: “Over the years, the walls and doors of Mount Pleasant had sustained a lot of damage, having been battered by the wheeled containers used to move mail around the building. As part of the refurbishment we were looking for a product that would be effective at preventing damage and would look attractive.
Yeoman Shield were happy to provide samples free of charge that were initially installed into a trial area on the ground floor.”
To add greater protection to the delivery office walls, Yeoman Shield developed a PVCu covered pattress on which the rubber Duo – Fender was mounted giving a better clearance from the wall and offering better protection to both the wall, trolleys and equipment.
In Mount Pleasant loading bay areas, the Yeoman Shield D – Fender which benefits from a galvanised metal inner strengthening bar, was fitted.
Protruding masonry structures such as columns and corners are protected by HD100(H) rubber corner angles incorporating a coloured “hazard” insert helping to highlight obstacles and obstructions etc.
As well as working hard to protect the interior of a building, Yeoman Shield products also look good, enhancing the corporate décor and helping to keep a building looking clean and pristine.
FalmouthEx 2.0mm thick wall protection panels in red, to match the Royal’s Mail’s corporate colour, were fitted along corridors and round columns. Stainless Steel Corner Angles were fixed to the more vulnerable corners.
“The finished look is very attractive. It has been well received by both users and visitors and we have the reassurance of knowing that the building will maintain its ‘smart look’ for many years to come,” added Paul.
