Day off changed without informing me

I have a floating round and my rotational day off this week falls on Saturday. When I looked at the list this morning I noticed they've got my day off as being on Friday which we're all having off anyway. Nobody has told me as yet and I've planned to go down south to see family. Do I go and speak to someone about it or should I pretend I've not looked at the list and just not turn in on Saturday? Seems unfair how they can just change your day off without even informing you first especially around holiday time.

tell DOM u have made arrangement and won't be working on Saturday - its his problem not yours.

I should just like to add that you probably should have informed the manager last week of your plans...

The reason i said this is because we all know that there is a Bank Holiday coming up and it happens so often that managers put a lot of their Reserves on Bank Holiday day off. There are enough posts on here to highlight that view and I am also a reserve that have had Bank Holidays off several times.

My day off should have been Saturday this week but that was with the vacant duty I was doing for the last 4 weeks or so. That was changed to all sorts and not even on the list for 2 days so I could not really complain as I am not a walkholder not a Floater.

I had to go and ask what my day off was; surprise surprise, it was not a bank Holiday but the next worst - Tuesday - the lightest day of the week.

If your a rest day cover duty holder ie float just take your day off ,but if your a reserve covering a float your fxxxed

I couldn't inform my manager last week because I've been on holiday for the past 3 weeks and only returned back to work yesterday.

I agree that a Floater should maintain the same rest days as a Floater is a duty that is signed for or applied for.

However, I am not certain that Barbel actually has a duty as a floater... I might be wrong, of course. There are certain situations where a Reserve postie is performing a floating duty or walk holder duty; but that does not make them entitled to be treated as a duty holder. The manager can change the circumstance of a Reserve so easily but it will be courteous to at least inform that Reserve postie.

I try to avoid communications with management as much as possible - I am not interested in being chummy with them. So instead of asking what I was doing this week (previously I was on the same duty for 4.5 weeks), I just simply waited for the duty rota to go up and that was not even there on Saturday.

I am a Reserve who happens to be very flexible - hardly anything planned ahead and do not really mind any walk; it is the people I work with that is the real issue but then one still has to get on with it.

* Yes, I note the bit about being on holiday but I was just saying that for next time you might find yourself in the same situation. There is nothing stopping you from still digging your heals in or appealing to the manager but that will depend...

Well, I think, from Barbel previous posts, he/she has not been at the job that long and has been moved around a bit; from having a steady round to different things and perhaps now a steady round.

I think looking at the duty rota thing all depends. Like I said, it is possible to be a Reserve covering a long term absence or a Vacancy, and one can remain on that same duty for a long time.. In such a situation, one can assume that one will have the same days off as the walkholder as long as one continues to do the same walk. And it is probably the case for a large majority of the time and offices (?).

But that does not make one a walk holder and the manager can still change things...

I don't have to look at the rosta board for my day off because I know what it's going to be every week, so I can always pretend I hadn't looked at it and presume my day off is still Saturday as what it should be.

Yes I do have a floater duty covering the same days off every week, or at least I should do until they decide to come in on their days off but that's another story.
