POST Office chiefs have scotched rumours that the main post office in Wells is to move.

They were forced to address concerns that the service was looking to move out of its current home in the Market Place, once the lease on the building expired.

But they have said there is absolutely no truth in the rumour that they are looking for new premises.

A Post Office spokesperson said: "There are no plans to close or relocate Wells Post Office.

"We know Post Office services are vital for people in the area and we would like to assure them that we will remain at the heart of the community.

"We are currently undertaking the biggest transformation in our history, investing in our 11,500-strong network of branches.

"We are not engaged in any kind of closure programme. Rather, we are committed to maintaining the current size and reach of our branch network."
