Good News!.....WANTED

Post by Albethere »

Why oh why can't management give us posties some GOOD news rather than continually trying to beat us into the ground? Their attitude is Take Take Take, but they offer nothing in return!

In the past year that I have worked for RM as a part timer I must have ONLY finished early on about SIX occasions saving maybe 15 minutes each time - NOT what you could call a perk of the job! They always expect the part timers to do extended delivery while they are happy to short change us with PART TIME holiday pay, and a PART TIME pension.

FLEXIBILITY
Yes! Oh Yes! Oh Yes! We know they want it baby!, but why can't they negotiate it by AGREEMENT rather than CONFRONTATION?

Example - They could offer a VOLUNTARY choice to some staff who may "prefer" to get the benefit of working a FOUR DAY WEEK in return for choosing to do longer hours on the other days. Or, they could offer NO SATURDAY WORKING to some staff who may volunteer to do extra duties/hours on other days. Etc. Etc. Etc.

The KEY word in these ideas is ....VOLUNTARY.....but sadly they prefer to CONFRONT rather than to AGREE.

Our workforce is diverse and there may well be young single staff who prefer working to one shift pattern, while older staff with families may prefer an alternative shift pattern to fit in with family life. Why have management not done the obvious thing and made a staff list of preferences? If they only bothered to ASK they would probably find agreeable solutions could be found which help towards their objectives AND improve the staff morale.

It's like the old joke mate:

Two Royal Mail managers were talking and one said to the other; "There are a hundred ways to dishearten the staff, but only one way to make them happy."
His mate asks, "What's that then?"
The first one replies' "How the hell should I know?"

Sadly, it's because RM want a confrontation. The intention is to fundamentally weaken the union as part of the preparation for the ultimate goal - a streamlined operation of larger, but fewer, efficient processing centres and franchised delivery offices staffed by part-timers.
On the upside, I think Lieton and Crazier are beginning to get some bad press and the reality of the plans they've been assigned to carry out are becoming clearer to the general public.

Our DUM told us this, but I heard Crozier is against giving us Saturdays off as he sees them as a selling point. The much vaunted 'competition' don't work Saturdays and the leeches who deal in DSA like the idea of the customer being at home to recieve the garbage they send out.

One of our posties walking to work first day back on Wednesday passes through our solicitors area @ 5a.m. sees a Fedex driver out - which is unusual - he says hiya mate you're out early and he said - as soon as you dropped the early starts we started!!!!

Also we have been told that anyone collecting their mail before 8.30 will be charged - anyone else heard that? I've no idea how they intend to charge them.

i have heard of companies having to pay royal mail a fee to get thier mail before 8.30 but that was ages ago.

its obvious with these later starts that royal mail were going to lose a lot of business, already other companies are creaming the work off us and taking advantage of managent stupidity..but everybody knew it wasnt going to work, apart from management that is.

There's a charge for timed deliveries. £2000 per year - some companies have their deliveries set well before 8:30.

At my DO all Call&collect customers cannot receive their mail before 08:30. PO Box customers can collect their mail whenever they like.

5 days and no Saturdays? Less than 5 years I reckon.
