Office repick
Need some advice please fellow posties, we've had a revision, walks r almost all ok, due to have a repick in next 2 weeks, can the dom ringfence walks for part timers, or must all duties be put in the pot, surely he can't do this, I am full timer, need some clarity, thanks in advance

Re: Office repick
There "shouldn't" be any need to have part time and full time walks as long as they are all planned as having the same outdoor time, if there is two different duty spans in the office then that may create a need to ring fence duties but that is basically due to bad planning
The only duties that should be ring fenced are equality act ones and the only other time seniority might not apply is in the event of a non driver being left with a driving duty, ie last duty two duties to be picked are same van and both non drivers

Re: Office repick
We have PT and FT designated duties in Huddersfield. This is because we are 5 Post Code Sectors in the same office HD1 - HD5 spread over 3 floors. Because of that they have split each section into its own mini office.
To make sure that IPS is completed each day, or that a section is not too light or too heavy on FT it was decided that each duty would be designated FT/PT. Seems a sensible solution to a local situation. What I am trying to say is there may be local issues its best to check this out first just in case.

Re: Office repick
If you have 100 staff with a 70/30 full-time/part-time split you need to have full-time reserves to cover full-time annual leave and part-time reserves to cover part-time annual leave.
If you don't your entire indoor structure falls apart when you try to cover full-time annual leave with part-time reserves and your budget goes through the roof if you try to cover part-time annual leave with full-time reserves.
So...if you have 70 duties in an office and 70 full-timers the bottom 12-15(1in6) full-timers have to be reserves and those remaining 12-15 duties will go to the most senior part-timers.
Obviously this is not "true" seniority but the structure of the office has to work and clearly having all your duty holders full-time is not a viable option.
Depending on the duty patterns the rest day cover may provide another layer of complexity because as we have a 1 in 4 Saturdays our rest day cover are all 3 day week part-timers which means they get a duty set of three above more senior 5 day part-time reserves.

But what if some of these part timers don't want to be full time?fishtank wrote: So...if you have 70 duties in an office and 70 full-timers the bottom 12-15(1in6) full-timers have to be reserves and those remaining 12-15 duties will go to the most senior part-timers.
That could be what the dom is getting at, just didn't put it across properly.

Re: Office repick
Scotland 1, in reply to your original question: Our management were originally attempting to 'ring-fence' all our trolley walks for the part-timers as they didn't want them involved with the 'shared van' duties. A CWU Rep visiting our office stated that under NO circumstances can any walks be 'ring fenced/reserved' for part-timers as this is discriminatory and therefore illegal. Might be worth your office taking further advice along these lines.

Re: Office repick
I would think that only DDA duties can be ringfenced and that's usually for the current duty holder.
