After three months post box returned to Glenmoor Road

THE GLENMOOR Road, Ferndown postbox which has been missing for three months was due to be replaced by Royal Mail this week.

Royal Mail spokesman, Mike Norman said: “The post box in Ferndown was removed following an accident in October. We are pleased to advise that a new box is due to be installed this week.

“Replacement of a box will normally take six to eight weeks because there are a number of steps we have to go through, and on this occasion it has taken a little longer because it is a pillar box for which we needed to bring in a specialist vehicle covering a large geographic area for which we need permission from the local highway authority.

Royal Mail apologises to customers for the temporary inconvenience.”

Residents who waited throughout the pre-Christmas post rush for the restoration of the box were delighted at the news.

Mrs Dorothy Woods had been in repeated correspondence with Royal Mail's customer service department who told her in November it would be replaced within two weeks, after first reporting that groundworks and clearance from the utility companies were needed.

She said: "It has been extremely irritating that every time we need to post letters my neighbours and I have to drive around to find another box large enough to take extra mail. Many people in the neighbourhood are old, frail and without a car."
